The Pope establishes a foundation to support Catholic hospitals!

The chirograph of Francis institutes a foundation dedicated to the economic assistance of the health structures of the Church. It will be led by APSA President Bishop Nunzio Galantino.

In a chirograph published today, Pope Francis created the Foundation for Catholic Health Care, an organization that “will offer economic support to the health structures of the Church, in order to preserve the charism of the founders, their inclusion in the network of analogous and deserving structures of the Church and therefore their exclusively beneficial purpose according to the prescriptions of social doctrine”


This decision by the Pope is a reaction to the crisis affecting various health structures managed by religious orders, which often find it impossible to continue to maintain them and are forced to put them up for sale.

This new Vatican Foundation, Francis specifies, is an “Entity linked to the Holy See” so that it can “function under its sovereign authority and as an instrumental entity of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See, which will ensure its governance and everything necessary for its operation . Along with today's chirograph, the Pope also approved the Statute of the Foundation, which will be directed by Monsignor Nunzio Galantino, President of APSA.
